Your Questions, Answered.

  • We are located on Stagecoach Road, approximately fifteen minutes from downtown Sewanee. Kara Farms is conveniently situated about 60 minutes from Chattanooga and 90 minutes from Nashville. If you are approaching the mountain from Kimball via Battle Creek Road, please be aware that the route includes steep, narrow switchbacks. We recommend a slow, scenic approach to enjoy the ascent safely.

  • Standard check-in is after 3:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. However, if your travel schedule requires an earlier arrival or a later departure, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

  • Excellent. We’ve equipped the A-frames with SVEC Fiber Wi-Fi. Whether you’re needing a writing retreat or a professional balancing a few Zoom calls between hikes, the connection is stable and fast.

  • To ensure the safety of our guests and the well-being of our livestock, we maintain a no-pet policy. Kara Farms is an active working farm and home to our quality Brahman cattle as well as our three resident farm dogs: Henry, Maybelline, and Ruby Jane. For the safety of your animals and ours, we require a pet-free environment.

  • While we welcome guests of all kinds, our residences were designed with an adult-centered aesthetic. Each A-frame features lofts accessed by steep ladders or narrow stairs, which may be unsuitable for small children to access alone. Because we are a working farm with active equipment and cattle, children should be supervised at all times to keep everyone secure.

  • We encourage you to wander and enjoy the scale of the mountain. Guests have full access to the woods behind the residences and our curated walking trail. To protect our livestock and farm equipment, we ask that you remain on the west side of the road (the woods and bluff side) and do not enter the restricted pastures or the pole barn.

  • Kara Farms is a living, breathing landscape. While your A-frame is a curated, high-end retreat, the farm itself is active. You may hear the sounds of equipment or see our friendly dogs passing by to say hello. We ask all guests to observe a 15 mph speed limit on the property to protect the animals and personnel who manage the land.

  • Absolutely! We ask that you do not approach any livestock without the owner, Judy, present, but she loves her animals and would be glad to show you around if your time allows. Also, please let us know if you would like to take home fresh farm eggs, as we always have plenty to share.

  • These two residences are connected by an enclosed loggia. This architectural feature allows each unit to maintain its own privacy while providing a shared space for groups traveling together. You may rent them individually or pair them for a more expansive residency.

  • You can reach us anytime via phone, our contact page, or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within 24 hours.
